The highly anticipated new G5 iMacs were announced today at Apple Expo Paris. The new iMacs feature a new all-in-one design with a tiny desktop footprint (they essentially look like moderately thick LCD monitor with a wide bottom bezel). The iMac G5 will be available in three configurations, and will start shipping in mid-September:


  • 1.6GHz 17-inch iMac
    1.6GHZ PowerPC G5
    533MHz Frontside bus
    256MB PC3200 (400MHz) DDR SDRAM (supports up to 2GB)
    NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra with 64MB DDR SDRAM with AGP 8X support
    80GB Serial ATA 7200rpm HD
    rbc kits Slot-loading Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
    17-inch (viewable) widescreen TFT active-matrix LCD, 1440 x 900 pixels, millions of colors
    $1299

    256MB PC3200 (400MHz) DDR SDRAM (supports up to 2GB)

    160GB Serial ATA 7200rpm HD
    Slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
    20-inch (viewable) widescreen TFT active-matrix LCD, 1680x1050 pixels, millions of colors
    $1899


All three configurations feature (2) Firewire 400 ports, (3) USB 2.0 ports, (2) USB 1.1 ports (on keyboard), VGA output , S-Video and composite video output. 10/100BASE-T Ethernet and 56K V.92 modem, Headphone/optical digital audio output, audio line in, and built-in stereo speakers.

Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther" is installed, as is the standard consumer bundle, including iLife '04, AppleWorks, Quicken 2004 for Mac, World Book 2004 Edition, Nanosaur 2, Marble Blast Gold, Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive, and Apple Hardware Test.

Man, how do they pack that into sumfin so small.
And where is the CD drive!
